Foulpointe: King Radama's Fortress still as highly attractive as before 23/05/2013 | 09:04:28

A genuine journey through space and time has begun. Most of those making for this area called Foulpointe, located on Madagascar's eastern coast, are generally intending to enjoy its white sandy beaches, yet a handful of these travellers are also attracted by a certain legacy of history, namely the Manda, a fortified stronghold built long ago by the reigning king Radama I.

The stronghold was basically deemed to concentrate the coastal defense system against any eventual military threat from abroad. Noble king Radama I, who ruled from 1810 to 1828, ordered the erection of a complete string of twelve of these fortresses all along the easter coasts of Madagascar. The island used to be the object of greed, and genuine raids have been successfully repelled, according to the local guide's reports. Yet, not any but one of the twelve fortresses built up by king Radama could resist against enemies as invicible as the course of time and the nature, as a matter of fact, prove to be.  Visiting the last one of them, the Stronghold of Foulpointe, comes up to an opportunity to discover one part of this island's once glorious past, and to enjoy an idyllic spot over the Indian Ocean by the same way
