Peace of the braves in Ambohimanga 02/04/2014 | 18:34:03

A place like the commune of Ambohimanga distinguishes at best the central highlands of Madagascar. He, who has a short stay in Antananarivo city and a shadow of interest into its culture, must pay a visit to this place, some 12 miles away to the north of the capital city.

Life goes on in this town as it always used to be going in the Malagasy highlands' countryside: fresh air, quiet, composure and proverbial hospitality from the locals. Ambohimanga happens to be a major landmark in the history of Madagascar's royal times' highlands. King Andrianampoinimerina the Great tackled the conquest of the whole territory of Antananarivo and completed the errection of a mighty Merina kingdom from Ambohimanga as starting point. King Radama I., his son and successor, extended his father's achievement on national scale and founded as first the Kingdom of Madagascar. The royal palace of Ambohimanga is accessible to visitors. So, there is little to be waiting for.
