The world of the “Kalon’ny Fahiny” (Music of yesterday) has lost one of its icons, the remarkable composer-singer Gabriel Rabehasina aka Gabhy. Aged 77, Gabhy died yesterday morning from cerebrovascular accident in the HOMI Hospital at Soavinandriana. Actually, two years after the death of Romule Rabarivola, the other member of the group “Kintana Telo” (three stars), Gabhy has taken his leave this year leaving Salomon, the only left star of the group, with a large collection of his own masterpieces.
Gabhy started to embrace the musical world in 1949 when joining the theatre company called Telonohorefy. Within that company, he interpreted mostly classic songs of the period. In 1950, Gabhy managed to get some of his interpretations of composers like Noelson Lalao and J.J Tseheno played on the radio. In 1952, Gabhy started to write songs which he later gave to composers like MR Razafy, Rolland Raoelison, Dany Ranoa, William Ratianarivo, André Tytis and Momon-Jaona. It was only in 1958 that Gabhy went on stage for a real music show. At that time, he was a member of Louis Rasoanaivo’s group. In 1967, Gabhy started to compose his own songs some of which constituted later “Kintana Telo”’s hit songs.
A last tribute to this respectable artist is being held in the Tranompokonolona Analakely from Friday, August 26 until his burial day which has not yet been revealed.
