The union of reporters requires the communication minister to step down 03/05/2012 | 17:52:35

What an unconventional world day of press freedom on May, 3rd ! A couple of FREE FM radio station’s reporters were held in custody at the state police station of Betongolo, then released in the afternoon of May, 3rd. Harry Rahajason, the ruling power’s communication minister, alias Rolly Mercia, had rather leave the capital city and attend an official event in the island’s southern city of Toliara. As a consequence to the FREE FM related case, the union of reporters actually leads the offensive in Antananarivo.

Rocco Rasoanaivo, the union’s president, expressed the union’s will in a very much criticizing statement, namely: the reopening of all of the banned radio stations, freedom to whoever intending to open new stations, and resignation from the current minister in charge of communications. Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy, FREE FM station’s reporter as well as the newly created union’s secretary general, openly pledged support to the statement at her very first step out of from the detention center

It must be the dreaded end to the alliance between the new President Hery Rajaonarimampianina and his former political and financial lord and ally Andry Rajoelina.
