U.S. American congressmen visiting the Big Island 06/07/2012 | 15:02:23

Their visit may not specifically be focusing on the Madagascan crisis, but some members of U.S. American Congress spending this weekend in Madagascar are quite likely to address the issue. Their mission concerns first and foremost the program aimed at strengthening parliamentary cooperation between both nations. Meetings namely with the local transitional congress’ President as well as with the formal national unity Prime Minister, Omer Beriziky are being scheduled.

During their short stay, the six members of the North American Congress will also have the opportunity to discuss with members of Malagasy civil society. Scores of topics will be addressed, namely the protection of the environment, the new form of human trafficking related issue and the restoration of democratic institutions in Madagascar.
Since the beginning of the political crisis in Madagascar, and after the coup of March 2009, the U.S. government has always been stressing the need to recover constitutional order through free and transparent elections accepted by each and every decision maker and citizen in the crisis. This position has naturally pushed the American government to play a deaf ear to Andry Rajoelina, the year 2009’s putsch maker number one.
