Tourmaline rush in Ambatofitorahana 13/01/2014 | 07:12:35

This is a remote village on the edge of National Highway 7 which leads to the south. Ambatofitorahana is another quite welcome stopover.

In this area, scores of people have succumbed to gemstone fever. Ambatofitorihana and its surroundings is said to be teeming with industrial minerals and stones of value. Precious to both industrial fields and jewelers, Tourmaline is the leading commodity. And it is not the only one of that kind. The place itself carries a suggestive name, for Ambatofitorahana literally means "throwing stone town". From the very old era now lost to memory, gemstones used to be so abundant that arguing people were told to stone each other with them. Gemstone rush has, however, not disfigured the village. It has been retaining its absolute discretion and simplicity. After a twenty five miles long ride from the town of Ambositra in south- center of the Great Isle, Ambatofitorahana remains first and foremost a conveniently located place for a deserved break
