Andry Rajoelina only had to say the magical words to have them come true by the beginnning of the year 2009 when power became his. The former mayor of Antananarivo city can definitely not expect the same this time around with political negotiations. His reliance on France's protection has, for the time being, failed to grant him either the crisis' happy end or the international recognition which he is longing for. Andry Rajoelina is a little bit desappointed and cannot understand why on earth do the other mobility leaders, first and foremost Marc Ravalomanana, keep on refusing to sign France's deal allegedly supported by South Africa. "I had thought that the others would have shown evidences of tolerance and wisdom ", he moaned. And yet, the propaganda machine is extensively campaining on the "secret deal".

Complicated agreement in Pretoria, Andry Rajoelina’s self achieving dream away

It would have been the dream consensus, at least for Andry Rajoelina who would have been in control of the transitional period as well as his mutation into president of the 4th Republic. This secret document is everything but a pledge for contestants’ equal chances or a pledge for fair elections.

The HAT propaganda press are apparently making a scandal from some alleged sway from Marc Ravalomanana and the other mobilities. They are pretending that” the agreement had already been agreed by everyone”. It is perfectly clear that the draft is reflecting the Rajoelina mobility’s widened consensus concept as well as a corrupted legacy of the Maputo agreements.

Unfortunately for the HAT, the other leaders did not quake under pressure and refused to sign. Even Marc Ravalomanana doesn’t appear informed of what it is supposed to have accepted. At least, no former presidents did. In the non virtual world, France’s involvement is not an asset for the HAT, since it is re enacting France’s greedy policy led hostility in Madagascar.

Andry Rajoelina is compelled to repeat that he only traveled to South Africa in order to sign the French agreement. Further negotiations are scandalous according to him. “Some people are longing for wasting time, they don’t want to reach any agreement”, he said. Would a HAT pressed by an increasingly impatient army as well as by a groaning population be short of time?.

In face of his compulsory postmortem operation on the negotiation table, Andry Rajoelina found nothing better but the threat of thwarting the last chance meeting of Pretoria. A potential national unity government would, however, still be considered with the other mobilities’ cooperation. But the former presidents are definitely reluctant to play accordingly since it would amount to granting undue legitimacy to a corrupted regime.

The crisis concerns everybody, but Andry Rajoelina and the HAT are bogged down in the deepest problems, and consequently yearn for an exit. Despite being challenged indoors, and ignored outdoors, the authoritarian regime is still refusing to share any inch of its power conquered through a putsch one year ago. The stake is now the way to keep in control while denying comfortable position to adversaries. The priority remains the way to hinder the ousted former president from taking part into the next presidential contest.
