The minister for Culture and Patrimony, Gilbert Raharizatovo, is planning to sue the private Frequence Plus radio station for public libel.

Duel between minister Raharizatovo and the Frequence Plus radio

Here is an issue which could well end up in court. The High Authority of Transition’s minister, Gilbert Raharizatovo, confirmed that he would be suing the Frequence Plus radio station, since it had allegedly broadcasted “slandering” information about him

During a press conference, Gilbert Raharizatovo was keen on denying whatever wrong doing unveiled by Frequence Plus, namely child abuse, fraudulent acquirement of villa and luxurious cars, as well as embezzlement.

“It is a disparagement campaign” replied the minister for culture. Gilbert Raharizatovo has, without a shade of hesitation, accused Marc Ravalomanana’s political mobility members of being the masterminds of these “slandering actions”. According to Raharizatovo, this mobility would allegedly be targeting his ministry in the next transitional government in order to cover up the issue of the royal relics transfer from the Queen’s palace.

As far as it was concerned, the Frequence Plus radio had to specify that the information concerning Gilbert Raharizatovo did not emerge from the station’s journalists, but rather from a live phone line intervention from a listener who said to be quoting an article from newspapers.

The Frequence Plus radio is estimating that the station is in no way responsible for broadcasting  what has been heard about the minister for Culture. The station’s directing board has, however, displayed its willingness to engage talks.

The problem has, anyway, revived the debate concerning the issue of “have your say” type live phone lines interventions on the waves. The programs are usual as far as the capital city’s private radio stations’ schedules are concerned; their backlashes, however, are often causes for antagonism.
