The Grottos of Anjohibe.

These grottos are the principal attractions in the Anjohibe region; one of them has an area of 5 KM to be found at around 100 KM from the town of Mahajanga (West). The grottos are not that easily reached due to the poor condition of these country roads. There are those who prefer it stay this way as a means to preserve the condition of the sites. The inside of the principle grotto of Anjohibe is a beautiful almost mythic place, with its famous stalactites and stalagmites and overhanging rocks. Local guides use dried Satrana leaves to light their way through the caves. To get to Anjohibe will take you about 3 hours in an all terrain vehicle to handle these roads. Bring along some camping equipment because these caves are to be found where no hotel has yet dared to venture.
