A couple of military ceremonies, both directed by the transitional president Andry Rajoelina, haven taken place in the palace of Iavoloha. Some generals captured general attention by their absence.

Generals boycotting a farewell ceremony

The army would like to be considered as supportive of Andry Rajoelina. The reciprocal point is even more true. A couple of military ceremonies have, thereupon, been organized on December 23rd in the palace of Iavoloha. The purposes: flags officially offered to this year’s newly promoted generals, and a final farewell tibute to retired generals.
The snapshot was relevant enough. In the midst of a deep crisis following the clash with the opposed joint political front, Andry Rajoelina is keen on displaying that the army is still with him, the message is crystal clear. But the situation does not prove to be so easy to manage. Some generals had allegedly refused to say goodbye. General Edmond Rasolomahandry’s absence has attracted much attention. He was joint army chief of staff under Marc Ravalomanana’s regime.General Radavidson, also famous for being one of the ousted president’s proxies, also failed to appear.
18 generals in all have been retired this year. A brood of 20 officers have been newly promoted, part of them were the ministry in charge of the armed forces, Noël Rakotonandrasana, and the army’s joint chief of staff, André Ndriarijaona.
