Milk consumption in Madagascar is at 4.5 kilos per person. We need to improve the production of milk by professionalizing the trade.

Improvement in the Milk Sector

Here in Madagascar, the famous milk triangle is made up by only those three regions that can produce an important quantity of cow?s milk. The TRIBUNE writes, ?Improvements in milk production in the Bongolava region are already evident. A three day long training session was recently organized at the Don Bosco Ejely Center at Miarinarivo with the aim of professionalizing the efforts of the operators and smaller operations in the milk triangle (Bongolava, Itasy, Vakinankaratra). This training session was aimed mostly at the transformation of milk, socio-economic studies of animal health, heat detection, artificial insemination and animal feed.

Marius Ratolojanahary, Secretary General of the Ministry of Animal husbandry, Agriculture and Fishing, stated this session was designed to help the private sector especially those organizations who bought the milk cows recently imported in partnership with the state, to better improve the odds for those who work in the field. The end goal here is to increase the per person quotas of consumption to 10Kilos of milk per person  by the year 2010 from the present 4.5 kilos consumption.
