Time is ripe for planting rice again, yet, the rainfalls seem nowhere near to prove enough in the Alaotra region. Scores of farmers can nothing but expect.

The Alaotra region running short of water

The Alaotra region located in the East of Madagascar’s central highlands, has always been serving the country as one of its major rice production centers. But once again, the rice production is likely to suffer delays. The lack of rain also entails electrical energy shortages, for water levels happen to be much too low to power the national energy supply company’s turbines the right way. Many other regions, including Antananarivo, have been paradoxically receiving their due share of rainfalls over the latest days.
