The Pangalanes Channel runs on the East Coast of Madagascar allowing the transportation of goods and people over 800km.

A large part of the Pangalanes Channel is again open to tourism.

The work of dredging and cleanup was necessary on the part of Panganales channel from the port city of Toamasina to the locality of Mahanoro. Everything is now back in order on this route where navigation is again possible. A pleasure the local population who may again resume the carriage of goods by river. A treat as well for tourists. The objective of the Malagasy Ministry of Transportation is to render the navigation possible along the canal up to Manananjary, in the south-east, towards the end of 2008. Further work is therefore anticipated. The Panganales channel has been used for a long time for tourism purposes, and at the same time, for the transportation of goods. The minister of tourism and transport, Laporte Ravelonarivo, went there to see the changing situation.
