British Embassy in Madagascar: confirmation of its reopening

It is official, the British Interests Section-Madagascar has confirmed the information that the British Foreign Minister announced in Parliament Wednesday, May 11 the intention of the United Kingdom to open a new embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar, which is part of the UK Government’s plans tending to align its resources with its priorities.

Thus, the appointment of an ambassador is to be considered as soon as the political situation and especially the process of international recognition of the transition authority, leading to free and fair elections, will become a reality. The head of the British diplomacy said that his government also supports the mediation process led by the SADC, that the United Kingdom follows that process very closely. In fact, he stated: “We look forward to getting the results of the SADC summit”. He further said that “the new embassy in Madagascar will join the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the Indian Ocean network, an innovative structure which includes Mauritius, Seychelles and the Comoros”.
