Chamber of Mining of Madagascar: requesting the issuance of exploitation license

A while ago, the Malagasy government suspended the issuance of exploitation license relating to all extractive industries in the country. Hence, many companies, while waiting for the issuance of their licenses, had to suspend the implementation of their exploitation projects, and that is despite the fact that the majority of these companies are currently processing the release of their financing.

At this point, about 2000 exploitation licenses are being stuck in the offices of the Ministry of Mining, waiting to be validated, according the Chamber of Mining of Madagascar. Most of these licenses belong to the big mining companies in Madagascar as well as their partners, the majority of whom already operated in the country but just waiting for the renewal of their licenses. However, according to the Road Map which dictated the suspension of the issuance of exploitation license, only new exploitation licenses which may lead the government into long term contracts must be suspended. Hence, the Chamber of Mining of Madagascar formally requested the issuance of the licenses of companies that need to be renewed.
