The president elect of Madagascar who fell under a hail of bullets after holding office for only 6 days, will now be the subject of a public conference.

Conference called on the tragedy of Ratsimandrava.

A public enquiry on Col. Richard Ratsimandrava will be held in the capital. The conference will be held as part of the 31st commemoration of the anniversary of the assassination of the president elect on the 11th February 1975. The Tribune specifies, ?After 30 years, the murder of a chief of state remains unsolved. On Tuesday 21st of March 2006 at Tranompokonolona Analakely at 14.00hrs a public conference on the story surrounding the untimely death of Richard Ratsimandrava will unfold. Every year the questions surrounding this regretful event are reopened and yet, still no answers are forthcoming relative to the assassination of the former chief of the Gendarmes who held the office of President for less than a week in 1975. The people retain the memory of a man who, as minister of the interior, brought a new hope in his vision of what our society could be, especially the rural population. When his country called he did not flinch, he stepped up to face the gravest responsibilities in our land. When he came to power, there were no real political opponents who declared themselves, nor surprising as the country had formerly been ruled by the military for three years. However it does seem the ex col. of the gendarmes had an unspoken political enemy in the now exiled Didier Ratsiraka at that time an officer in the Navy. Richard Ratsimandrava had a brief mandate as his life was taken by unknown assailants on the 11th February 1975 at 8Pm when he was shot through the heart.
