From biological compost heaps to ethanol, new recipes for development appear on the market. Sad prospects for Antsirabe.

Development means to try to new things.

?Is this a new miracle recipe for rice production?? Asks Express de Madagascar while reporting that,?growers in Alaotra have been experimenting with rice growing using new compost that may permit the doubling of the harvest. ?The only worry the rice growers have is how they can acquire the necessary ingredients to activate the process, which accelerates the compost decay?, says the Quotidien. ?The base matter is made of juice of beef intestine or of the inside of a banana tree.? Japanese and Indonesian experts are here and soon also some from Thailand, to share their expertise with Malagasy growers to help us attain our goal of self sufficiency and indeed to once again be able to export our rice crop to the world.?

?A real first in our part of the world,? the Quotidien reports, ? the creation of a new business to produce ethanol. In order to have the approval of all, the promoter of this project has not forgotten to use the ancient local Malagasy rituals to appease the spirits.? Over the course of the next 9 months about 1000 people will be employed locally as the business is set up. There will be 10 engineers to take care of the technical side of things, while about 4000 temporary workers will look to the planting and transport of the sugar cane.?

In the mean time, the news is not good for the town of Antsirabe, ?suffering under the full effect of the economic crisis,? according to the Express de Madagascar. ?More than 2400 workers from two local base industries  must lose their jobs between now and June. Dark clouds hang over this area of Antsirabe faced with this economic disaster.?
