End of the project “Land O’Lakes” in the region of Itasy in 2011

“Land O’Lakes” or the Project working for the development of the milk sector in the region of Itasy will reach its end in 2011. “Land O’Lakes” is an agricultural project which collaborates with individual and grouped milk producers, sellers and manufacturers, having as the ultimate goal the development of the milk sector through the improvement of the quality of the product and through the reinforcement of its commercialization system. Backed by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) with total funds of 6.800.000 US Dollars, the project lasts 4 years (2007-2011), and it is implemented in various activities such as animal feeding, supplying, marketing development, quality control and industry development.

Coordinated workshop was held in the District of Miarinarivo, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16, December, after which an assessment has been established. Indeed, during the 4 years existence of this project in the region of Itasy, the dairy industry has developed steadily in both quality and quantity. Officials in this region said that farmers have assimilated 90% of the project. Both farmers and officials have all stated that the project “Land O’Lakes” was a complete success in that region. Moreover, in 2011, “Land O’Lakes” will organize a kind of contest on the breeding of dairy cows.
