Energy: workshop on ethanol production

A capacity building workshop on the small-scale production of ethanol in Madagascar has been held since the beginning of this week at Anosy. Participants from diverse horizons and countries take part in this workshop, whose principal goal is to strengthen the know-how and capacity of the local actors such as the sugar cane and ethanol producers. These people operate on small-scale production units, including limited surface of farming lands and micro distillery.

As such, participants in the workshop have been trained to acquire efficient know-how concerning the production of ethanol locally, that is, with the local investments, means, workforce, processing plants and markets. Plus, the training also addresses the issue of sensitizing local financial institutions to support the field. Technically, the workshop is highly beneficial to the participants in that up to this point, they have been able to learn various technical procedures as to the production of ethanol, namely distillation, fermentation, storing, technological means and technical maintenance. As a reminder, ethanol can be used for the following purposes: lighting, cooking, and in manufacturing as a bio-fuel.
