Life has resumed going on as it always used to in the northwestern part of Madagascar recently affected by the cyclone Hellen’s visit. The largest number of the affected population has already recovered home, and all of the pupils are back to school, where they belong. Still, a healthcare related threat has not disappeared yet.

Hellen’s aftermaths : comeback to normality complete though pending outbreak of a pandemic

The National Risk and Disaster Management Office (BNGRC) reports that diarrhea, malaria, tropical fever and breathing system related sicknesses would be looming, more especially in the district of Soalala. The recovery of free access to clean drinking water remains a top issue to many villages as well. The National Risk and Disaster Management Office responded with a cleansing project for the local population’s wells. The districts of Soalala, Andranomavo and Ambohipaky would also be concerned by the food security related issue. The rise of water levels in rice fields could possibly lead to the loss of half of the standard rice harvests.
