Humanitarian aid: the World Food Program wants to revise its food aid policy

Soon after the realization of the celebration of the World Food Day, the World Food Program (WFP) wants to revise its policy concerning the struggle for food insecurity. “We are going to provide ourselves in the local market as far as food is concerned. There are agricultural potentials to be exploited”, stated the WFP’s representative in Madagascar, Krystyna Bednarska. For her, such policy revision aims primarily at promoting the local agriculture and industry.

According to many reports, the WFP is the first international program in Madagascar to give a large quantity of food aid in case of natural disasters such as cyclone, drought and flood. This year, the program has acquired 2.000 tons of food supplies. According to the WFP, Antananarivo, Toliara, Toamasina and Fianarantsoa are the most vulnerable localities in terms of food security. Thus, the WFP will undertake special actions in these localities, including the establishment and the increase of the number of school canteens for small children.
