Improvement of urban transportation: return of a delegation from China

After a few days visit in China, the Malagasy delegation of transporters, lead by the Head of the Presidential Cabinet of the Transition authority, Rija Rajhoson, accompanied by the Director of urban transportation of the Urban Commune of Antananarivo, was back in the country on December 29, 2012. The visit is part of the project of improving the service of urban transportation through the replacement of the entire fleet of buses in the capital.

During the visit, 4 major bus factories were visited by the Malagasy delegation where 7 bus models met the needs and requirements of transporters. However, the delegation finally identified 2 models as being closest to the transporters’ needs. The first model is 6.50 meters long while the second one is 7.50 meters long. Both have 2 main doors which respond exactly to the demands of transporters. In the meantime, the association of urban transporters needs to organize a general meeting in order to agree if the 2 selected models do fit exactly to the traffic environment in the capital or not.

It is to be noted that the government will bring its contribution regarding the purchase of the vehicles. At the same time, the government will also stand as the transporters’ guarantor for the loans that the latter will have to make. The goal in the project is that through the replacement of the bus fleet in Antananarivo, transporters will acquire and operate their own vehicles to provide professional, modern and quality service in the sector of urban transportation.
