Journalism: two-day training for Sorakanto members

The members of the Association of Cultural Journalists of Madagascar called Sorakanto followed two-day training on August 13 and 14, provided by DIFP (Department of Communication and journalism at the University of Antananarivo). Jannine Rambeloson raised questions regarding the importance of cultural journalism in Madagascar. She highlighted the methodological problem regarding languages and interculturality. According to her, the primary role of cultural journalists is to provide the common factor contributing to the unification of the Malagasy people.

The person in charge of the curriculum and laboratory of the “cultural management and mediation” at the DIFP pointed out that the mission of journalist in general is to produce meaning. In his address, he suggested different meanings, including, among others, anthropological, informational and sociological, that journalists can share with the public in their works.

The professional trainer, Andry Solofo Andriamiseta, during the movie review section of the training focused on the codes, the artistic techniques and languages in movies. For him, narratives and scripts, framing, symbolism, archetypes, interpretation, acting techniques as well as the film director’s hidden message are among the informational elements to decipher when reviewing a film product.
