The pro-Ravalomanana are advising the literal implementation of agreements signed in Maputo
Before the second stage the four party talks, from now on tagged as Maputo 2, the partisans of former president Marc Ravalomanana are longing for an effective implementation of the already signed agreements.
Without yearning to make a stillborn of talks on August 24th in the Mozambican capital city, the “defenders of legality” are, first and foremost, keen on strictly sticking to what has already been agreed, that is to say the unconditional implementation of the agreement signed by Andry Rajoelina, Marc Ravalomanana, Didier Ratsiraka and Albert Zafy in Maputo by the beginning of August.
Whereas the next meeting is programmed on August 24th, both starring actors of the 2009 crisis, namely the Marc Ravalomanana and the Andry Rajoelina mobilities, can’t help throwing accusations at each other.
Maputo’s agreement n°2 is specifying, for example, the protection of former president Marc Ravalomanana’s goods and family. His partisans are judging that the agreement is still being violated. The memorandum addressed by Fetison Andrianirina to international mediators is mentioning that “since the signature of the Agreements to this day, President Marc Ravalomanana’s belongings have been being the target of depredation and authorized theft” namely “rice, wheat and raw oil belonging to the MAGRO SA society, to the Mill and to Tiko Oil Plants located in Toamasina’s harbour, as well as vehicles”.
Those sharply opposed interpretations of the implementation of signed agreements are definitely jeopardizing the upcoming talks.
The international contact Group’s new mission conducted by Joaquim Chissano himself on Malagasy soil will be the opportunity to moderate the stands.
