Shoot out in Fort Duchesne : Colonel Richard Ravalomanana vs FIGN 1:0

colonel Richard Ravalomanana vainly strained to reach a lull though negotiations, then his men launched the assault at 17:00 local time. Inside of the FIGN base camp, not more than 15 men were still resisting. One of them was shot dead “in action”. The special Intervention Force which suffered one casualty, finished the issue off with reinforcement from the GSIS squad, a pale copy of the French GIGN. The Emmo Reg’s troops followed suit.

The shoot out’s intensity mislead everyone quite well. Although hundreds of bullets have been shot by the FIGN, they had been shot by a ridiculously small number of soldiers. The battle would have been directed against 6 officers and merely 22 troopers. The brilliant Colonel Ravalomanana mobilized no less than 600 men. It was a foregone done deal. In the end, the Emmo Reg’s commander got it right to say that neutralizing the opposition would have been an easy thing, with rocket propelled grenades at range.

general Zafera, the commander of the FIGN, had surprisingly remained inside the camp and lifted the white flag. After a short moment of doubt, his version has been checked up. The one who swore oath and fidelity to Andry Rajoelina would have been detained by his men. Colonel Raymond Andrianjafy was still spotted inside the battlements shortly before the assault, but successfully ran away with some of his men in civilian clothes. Most of them left their rifles but some guns would have been taken away according to colonel Ravalomanana. The camp has been secured at 18 hours.

Colonel Raymond Andrianjafy was prepared to negotiate, together with a general remained inside the camp, but has been convinced by his men to refrain from it. He escaped capture this time around, but he is now actively wanted by the authorities. “Ther e must be an investigation, some arrests and sanctions”, declared the HAT Prime minister Camille Vital in the evening. “The power is no more going to tolerate any jaywalking “.

On Thursday May 20th, 2010, at 08:00 a.m. local time, the clerical leaders’ movement’s supporter massively responded to the FIGN led call. The Emmo Reg forces tried to break  the growing demonstration near the Mausoleum, but had to give in to the demonstrators. Colonel Ravalomanana’s basic mission was the prevention of a demonstrators meaning to join Analakely and the place of May 13th.

The assault of the FIGN base camp was absolutely not on schedule. Lt Colonel Lylson’s special intervention force joined the scene shortly after the uprising’s beginning. The raid on Fort Duchesne was, according to colonel Ravalomanana, motivated by the restoration of military order. Before the assault, the police officers’ families living in the area have been asked to leave and join the Ratsimandrava camp.

Colonel Ravalomanana explained his forces’ hesitation by the care for civilians. In the end, a civilian, a vivid militant of the clerical movement died down. Three victims are still seriously wounded. One of the clerical leaders was equally wounded. As affording a press conference during the shoot out, brave colonel Ravalomanana demonstrated his outstanding courage as well as his gifted ability to make believe that bad boys are always
