From this very week, a new mission from the international Contact Group is already in Madagascar to monitor the implementation of the political agreement signed in Maputo.

The Contact Group closely monitors the erection of the Transition

After the signature of the political agreement in Maputo, the international community is now keeping a close watch on what is next. Antananarivo has already welcomed the International Contact Group’s mission. It will soon kick-start the process toward the new Transition.

A diplomatic source has confirmed that the African Union’s representative office for the monitoring of the agreement is quite likely to be established in Madagascar.

Negotiations currently get on well. The new government of Transition should indeed be put  in place within the next ten days according to a source close to the file. All the institutions of the Transition must, however, be put in place within one month.

There we go on a race against the clock. The international contact group visibly doesn’t want to spoil everything. It is keen on a correctly completed process.

In general, the signature of political agreements in Maputo has pleased the international. Although it will probably have to get more deeply involve in the follow-up of their implementations, as wanted by some political leaders.
