A couple of days following clashes between colonel Ravalomanana's Emmo Reg and the "rebelling" FIGN troopers, general Viennot Zafera made his sadness so much public that he burst into tears before the cameras. Fort Duchesne's commander didn't appreciate the assault launched against his camp although the rebel elements had already left. The muscle flexing operation took one more casualty's toll from the state police.

The FIGN uprising: general Zafera weeping!

On Saturday May 22nd, 2010, Fort Duchesne was in a mourning mood. The trooper Wilson killed in action during the Special Intervention Forces’ led assault prior to the Emmo Reg’s occupation, failed to recieve state recognition. The national state police’s brotherhood got a move on to comfort the family. The general Zafera took place behind the family receiving various condolences, clothed in sport training suit..

“The raid on the FIGN camp is filling my heart with sadness” declared general Zafera. “Twenty men committed a mistake, but many more others were not guilty “. According to it, the final assault led on the camp was not necessary, since the rebelling forces had left by then. The commander of the FIGN failed to keep in control of his own self when he met the Secretary of State  in charge of the national state police coming in to present his condolences to private Wilson’s family.

“I did nothing at all, why have I been attacked”, he protested in French, while bursting into tears. The general Zafera cannot swallow the ignorance of the waved white flag. “I.. I am a general “, he argued for believing his gesture to be enough to stop the raid from taking place. Then he turned away, joined his 4WD and failed, of forgot, to salute his hierarchical superior.

Embarrassed by the scene, general Claude Ravelomanana didn’t react. Later on, he equally displayed sadness. “I am sad that it had led to human casualties, Malagasy casualties. God be praised, the toll was relatively low”.  said the Secretary of State

During the attack, the rebelling leader and some of his men had been evacuated, with an alleged help from some of the -naturally unquoted- armed forces’ elite troopers prior to being surrendered as prisoners. Why on earth did the assault caused a casualty in such a case? The latest FIGN troopers remained in the base camp under general Zafera’s command were already in civilian suits. Did private Wilson miss out on the order? Did he really hold a machine gun in the hands when being shot? His colleagues are convinced that the attackers shot the wrong target.

A non-commissioned officer who didn’t participate into the fight openly displayed his wrath at the disgrace inflicted upon the FIGN. He told that general Zafera ordered his men to lay down their weapons. The situation quickly went tenser when the “rebelling” forces took refuge inside the base camp, jeopardizing everyone else by so doing. The non-commissioned officer owned up that he finally took his weapon with him as hiding away in an office, while thanking god for not having been forced to used it. He regreted that the commander of the FIGN had failed to order the defense of the attacked and plundered base camp. The general Zafera wants to lodge complaint. But against whom?
