The Malagasy Academy celebrates its 110th anniversary this year

110 years ago, the Malagasy Academy was created in the Madagascar. In addition, it is the oldest Academy in the whole continent of Africa. In fact, the Malagasy Academy was founded on January 23, 1902 by General Gallieni, the first governor general of the Great Island.

Actually, the Malagasy Academy aims to gather and evaluate research results in all disciplines and all fields of knowledge relating to culture, customs, and others. And it is the Academy which officially releases these results later, declared Rajaona Andriamananjara, President of the Academy since 2002, yesterday in Tsimbazaza. On this occasion, he said that since its creation, about 1100 members attended this Malagasy institution. This year, the Academy has 280 members, some of whom are not in the country.

The Prime Minister, Omer Beriziky, was present during the ceremony to honor the celebration. Moreover, he was considered as a moral authority. In his address, he encouraged the members who are researchers to continue promoting the Malagasy cultural wealth.

To mark this year’s celebration, several programs have been scheduled. As in the next few months, two scientific and literary symposia will be held in the capital. In addition, the Academy also organizes a dictation and a scientific contest. The Chancellor, Etienne Ralitera, was present at the ceremony. As usual, before delivering the honors to the 31 members of the Malagasy Academy, he gave explanations about the various Malagasy honors and protocol procedures such honorary titles and medals.
