Toamasina is looking for a new place in the sun.

Formerly principal destination of the holiday makers originating from the central areas of Madagascar, in particular the capital Antananarivo, the town of Toamasina attracted less and less tourists these last years. The Interprofessional Groupment of Tourism and Hotel trade (GITH) in the area of Toamasina believes in a better future. The professionals are persuaded that the East coast still has a number of potentialities to attract tourists. As a proof, certain establishments were fully booked during last August. To tell the truth, the decrease of the number of tourists who move towards Toamasina, during last years, was related to the fact that other areas draw the attention. To quote only Mahajanga (West) and Vatomandry (East) following the rehabilitation of the roads which lead to it. The potentialities of Toamasina and its surroundings are indeed great, would it be only the proximity of the beach and the quality of its fauna due to the wet climate of the area. In addition to the beach, national parks around Toamasina can thus become places of attraction for tourists and holiday makers. The GITH is in any case optimistic.
