Toamasina’s harbor: the Trade Union on strike

Toamasina’s harbor’s workers ‘ trade Union engaged on a large scale strike  on September 22nd, exclusively within the harbors’ limits. The SMMC’s workers’ Union, that of the SPAT, the trading services, various operators, transporters and dockers pledged support to the movement.  Is being targeted the MICTSL company currently operating in Toamasina. This company is being blamed for having caused records of job losses for workers, namely from the SPAT, the SMMC, as well as various other ones linked to the harbor and to its trading services. Workers of the latest ones actually failed from receiving their latest four pay checks; and funds dimmed to be used as export taxes have withered without even reaching the trading services. Dockers equally complained this way: “since this MICTSL corporation has been starting to operate, it has been completing a clean sweep on jobs, so now our lives are unbearable”

Do expel MICTSL from Toamasina

Strikers are actually requesting the immediate expulsion of the MICTSL corp. from Toamasina. They emphasized that: “this movement is no more a warning and will be going on until our demands are being satisfied’ On the other hand, they made clear that their movement was not politically linked.

The Harbor’s authorities criticized

The custom services are being repeatedly targeted in the run of this issue. Strikers are appearing amazed by the custom services’ alleged inclination to pledge MICTSL, and expressed their feelings this way: “the time to feed foreign companies up is over, the time to ruin Malagasy companies is over”. As a result, they are calling upon the High Authority of Transition to settle the issue
