Le président de la Haute Autorité de la Transition est plus que jamais sous pression. Même les militaires qui ont activement participé au coup d’Etat lui mettent la pression indirectement, en se mêlant de la politique politicienne.

When militaries poke their noses in politics

The president of the High Authority of Transition is more than ever under pressure. Even the militaries who actively contributed to the Putsch indirectly step the pressure up, by interfering in political matters.

Clearing for action! Frowning severe faces are displayed . The famous commander Lilyson, one of the main putschists who ousted Marc Ravalomanana in March, would probably feel more confortable in politician’s suit rather than in officer’s shoes.

In front of TV cameras, the commander riddled the successive Great Isle’s presidents and the international community with reproaches. “Why did Didier Ratsiraka run away in 2002? “, “Why didn’t the international community dare to criticize Marc Ravalomanana’s regime? “. So many topics do awake the man in uniform’s perplexity.

In clear, the military putschists step up the pressure on Andry Rajoelina, whom they pushed to become chief of the Transition. Politicians, militaries and journalists have somehow agreed on solemnly dictating the HAT president’s expected attitude, few days away from the Maputo talks over the Madagascan crisis.

A group of extremists beside Rajoelina wants to convince him, by all means, not to accept any charter which would include Marc Ravalomanana’s return as president, even with symbolic assignments. The president of the HAT is as a matter of fact stranded between the hammer and the anvil.

The mediators recalled again that further sanctions would follow the next lack of agreement, entry visa denials for leaders, freezing of their foreign assets and so on. The other mobilities’ reaction is not predictable either in case of failure after the meeting of Maputo.

Until then, the legalistic block keeps on claiming the necessity of a return to constitutional order, despite repression indeed. A legalistic march has been again repressed by the police forces on July 30th.
