It is difficult to separate the locality of Ambohimalaza from the history of the Madagascan Kingdom. The hill is worth a trip.

Ambohimalaza, the hill of Prince Andriantompokoindrindra

Located a dozen miles east of the capital, Ambohimalaza is a rather pleasant rural commune, in a magnificent hill dotted with rice fields and in the vicinity of Antananarivo. The first was the elder who, for personal reasons, has consented to hand over power to his Andrinjaka cadet, which was the architect of the taking of Antananarivo in 1610. The other version, however, spoke of his father’s refusal to grant him the authority for his immaturity.

Ambohimalaza currently has a vast necropolis of descendants of Andriantompokoindrindra. The tomb of the prince who relinquished power and, it seems, more particularly loved the game of “Fanorona”, is crowned with a wooden box called “Tranomanara House” or “cold” to protect it. The necropolis lies in Ambohimalazabe, about 3 km from the current Ambohimalaza hill. Ambohimalazabe being inhabited the ancient town in the vicinity, before the establishment of the current village
