Change expecting employees did not expect the current head of Customs to remain in his seat. Vola Razafindramiandra is strongly being opposed by employees who ask for his dismissal by the transitional authorities.

Custom administration blocked by a strike.

Customs employees keep on pressuring the transitional authorities to obtain the dismissal of Vola Razafindramiandra as head of the Customs Office. A 48 hours long ultimatum has been imposed to the Finance Ministry prior to a general strike. Many services including those of Antananarivo already broke down by Monday to keep pressure up.

The claim is simply political. The strikers simply consider that any regime change forcibly leads to administrations’ heads change as well. They accuse their current General Director to have ruined the national customs. Such statement happens to be baseless as the Finance Minister himself reported finding no suspect account on any dismissal.

Benja Razafimahaleo preaches administration continuity because he took conscience of Vola Razafindramiandra’s recent custom reforms. The decision to maintain this Director has been taken in spite of some employees’ opposition. The man of the Madagascan Customs has been being in charge for four times since 1994.

Political merry-go-rounds and so-said bad governance of the Customs Direction have not been enough to justify any dismissal of Vola Razafindramiandra. The Director has been suspended following the transitional take-over. But his alleged involvement in the bad business in which the new government strains to drawn president Ravalomanana have been proven baseless in the end.

The strikers promised to mend the trouble caused by their administration black out as soon as their demand is being satisfied by the transitional authorities. For the time being, they preach solidarity to rally all their colleagues to their cause. They deny to hinder the transitional government and emphasize their pro HAT position
