The international Contact Group is keen on the implementation of the political agreement signed in Maputo, as Edem Kodjo's currently led mission on Madagascan soil is demonstrating

ICG: “We are the pledge for the implementation of the agreement”

Since the beginning of week, the agreement of Maputo has been interpreted in various ways, according to what suits whatever political orientation. The lines of the Transition’s “Charter” are so subjective that the audience often gets confused.

“Only our interpretation is valid. We are the keepers of the interpretation of texts signed in Maputo “, specified Edem Kodjo, from the organization of French speaking countries, therefore currently sent in mission in Antananarivo by the international Contact Group.

The ICG declared to be “vouching” for the agreement’s implementation, so that Madagascar “doesn’t drown in civil war “.

Concerning the return of former president Marc Ravalomanana in the country, Edem Kodjo had to specify, at the time of a press conference, that the international Contact Group will also determine when and how it will be done.

The ICG’s first mission on Madagascan soil after the signature of the agreement in Maputo is proving the international community’s determination to implement the Transition. Some diplomats, however, remain prudent since all groups involved in the political crisis, namely those within the army, haven’t yet spoken their mind out.
