Local elections: malagasy political parties take position

Without surprise, after a few months of negociations and divergences between Marson Evariste, national president of the RPSD, and Eugene Voninahitsy, Secretary-general, the fight of influence between the two men reached his paroxysm. The scission was inevitable and, September 17, Mr. Voninahitsy creates a new party to appear, during local elections of November, among the competitors of the presidential coalition “Firaisankinam-pirenena” (FKP).

Another party, GRAD Iloafo, announced not to be ready to introduce candidates at the next local elections. The GRAD is still declared in the camp of the presidential coalition. For as much, certain members posted themselves, these last months, in the rows of the KMMR, closer to the opposition.

A wing of the MFM, another deeply divided party, would like to integrate the FKP.

A few months before the elections, negociations are up for associations and political parties which would wish to integrate the FKP. The candidates are numerous, but it is not certain that the presidential coalition is able to integrate all the applicants. The membership of the FKP remains indeed the single possibility for some political formations get a mayor’s seat or city council men at the time of the next electoral consultations.
