The bear trap has been waylaying the former president from the very beginning of the electoral process. Even when supporting a presidential candidate from a distance together with the Opposition front, Marc Ravalomanana’s chances to take Jean Louis Robinson to victory were slim, bearing in mind that the capitalization of the elections was completely controlled by the transitional ruling power. Besides, international acknowledgement from the world community, the electoral process’ financial backer, was granted from the very result release day to the declared winner. Because of such a deep financial contribution, foreign observers did not bother much, or even turned a blind eye on massive frauds spotted before, during and after the elections. The world community’s acknowledgement granted to Hery Rajaonarimampianina, the new President, remains quite a blow to the former president kept in exile in South Africa. The blow might be massive, but not lethal yet. Even in such a situation, he may still stand by support from one part of the armed forces and from a significant and growing share of the capital region’s middle class. His potential come back rumored to be taking place on the new President’s investiture day, most likely aims at nothing but keeping his supporters’ spirits up.
