The Special Electoral Court issued a verdict without stirring any surprise on January 18th, 2014 : "Is elected president of the Republic of Madagascar , the candidate Rajaonarimampianina Rakotoarimanana Hery Martial ." The official results of the second round of the presidential election held on December 20, 2013 clearly display a 53.49 % win for him against 46.51 % for his opponent Jean Louis Robinson.

In all, the Special Electoral Court has invalidated results in 38 polling stations considered unfounded all other complaints and requests for vote invalidation produced by bothcandidates, any further invalidation of results delivered by polling stations, the cancellation of elections, the disqualification of any candidates .

“This day is an important one in the history of the country. It is the capitalization of a relevant step towards a recovery of constitutional order , ” said François Rakotozafy , Chairman of the Special Electoral Court . He speaks of a recovery of democracy since the Malagasy people showed evidence of wisdom and peacefully participated in the elections. He thanked the world community for its contribution to the implementation of the crisis settlement Roadmap and for its support to the electoral process.
The Special Electoral Court holds its job to have been completed in transparency for having proceeded to public hearings before the concerned candidates, and to the comparison of reports on the applicants’ biddings. The Special Electoral Court advocated the ” electoral process’ integrity and transparency.” “The Electoral Commission accepted collaboration at every moment concerning exchanges of electoral documents. The High Constitutional Court supported the Electoral Commission and shared experiences without infringing on its independence. ” did argue François Rakotozafy whild not forgetting to express gratitude towards the police forces which contributed to secure the voting process.
“The Special Electoral Court merely implements the law and decides in an independent and unbiased way to protect voters’ choice ,” recalled its president. François Rakotozafy. He emphasized that the court did “not take any political decision and merely refers to the electoral legislation “… and finally added the following political statement : ” We encourage politicians to commit to live together in mutual respect .” He urged the people to respect the choice and not to interfere with the on going process.
The Special Electoral Court’s president’s latest words were blessings addressed to for the first elected president of the Fourth Republic of Madagascar : ” May God bless you and guide your future actions, so you duly serve public interest on behalf of the entire population … you are the president of all the Malagasy, do respect the Constitution and the laws, do abide by justice, and commit for the people’ sake. God bless you in the completion of your mission. “
