Air Madagascar: a chartering contract with Air Austral

According to the online journal “Air Journal”, from August 30 and 31 onward, the airline company, Air Austral, of La Réunion will charter one of its aircraft on behalf of the national airline company, Air Madagascar. And ultimately, the latter could take over the lease of one of Air Austral’s Boeing 777-200.

Thus, in addition to the Boeing 767 chartered by Air Madagascar from Air Italy until September 1, Air Madagascar will use a Boeing 777-200 belonging to Air Austral to serve two flights between Paris and Antananarivo. The national company is still looking for new aircrafts to ensure its flights to Europe and to replace its two B767, one of which has already been returned to its owner as the other one is not allowed to fly over the European Union airspace.

Still according to the journal, a lasting solution could come out from the partnership of Air Madagascar with Air Austral. The national airline will, in the long run, be able to lease one or even two of Air Austral’s three Boeing 777-200. Especially since the B777-200 is capable of taking off on a short airstrip (1.930 meters) such as that of Nosy Be.
