Celebration of the 1st anniversary of HAT’s 4th Republic at the Palace of Manjakamiadana: the “Andriana” object

As the Transitional Authority plans to organize the festivities to celebrate the first anniversary of the Fourth Republic at the Queen’s palace Manjakamiadana, the descendants of kings and queens of Madagascar have made an appointment last Friday morning at the gate of the palace of Manjakamiadana to express their objection to the festivities being held inside the Palace. These Ampanjaka and Andriana (Malagasy nobles) firmly stressed that no celebration should take place inside the compound of the Queen’s palace because the country is still going through another dark phase after the theft of the Royal Crown at the Palace of Andafiavaratra fortnight ago.

The stolen Crown of the Queen Ranavalona I indeed symbolizes the sovereignty of the Great Island and Malagasy authority in its own territory especially as the Queen was considered as a fervent defender of the country’s sovereignty against the incursion of foreigners. On several occasions, the Queen managed to repel the French army who settled in the eastern side of the island.

Still, many people were puzzled and offended by the last year’s attitude of the President of the Transition, Andry Rajoelina, who daringly came down from the palace of Manjakamiadana wearing a princely costume (almost identical to that of the King Radama I) to join the Independence Avenue to inaugurate the City Hall after the promulgation of the constitution of the Fourth Republic.
