The deposed president Marc Ravalomanana does not pledge the consensus toughly conquered in Antananarivo by the International Contact Group. As a matter of principle, he keeps on refusing to have the "putsch maker" Andry Rajoelina on top of the supposedly neutral Transition.

Consensus in the Carlton hotel: Marc Ravalomanana reluctant “as a matter of principle”

Marc Ravalomanana multiplies media interventions and phone calls to the Magro square. The message is constant: “no putsch maker should lead the country “. He is insisting on the neutral character of the Transition according to the charter signed in Maputo. “For the sake of fairness, I cannot participate to the Transition’s management, but the mobility can”, he reminded.

The deposed president is, therefore, standing against the consensus found in the Carlton hotel. “We don’t accept it, as a matter of principle, it doe not mean that I intend to become the Transition’s president, I am only respecting neutrality “, he justified. Marc Ravalomanana is displaying his commitment to hinder Andry Rajoelina from granting legitimacy to the putsch of latest March 17th.

The one who is in forced exile in South Africa is reassuring his partisans disappointed by the recognition of the TGV on top of the transition. “This agreement is not yet signed “, said Marc Ravalomanana on a more moderate tone. He is definitely decided to let know that there has really been a putsch in Madagascar. “An agreement without signature does not worth a thing”, he emphasized.

As being asked whether he ever wished to be present in Madagascar during this umpteenth negotiation, Marc Ravalomanana answered that he did. “If I had been there, I would have left the room”, he confirmed, in order to display his opposition to a consensus maintaining Andry Rajoelina on top of the transition. “I am pledging respect toward what has already been accomplished “, he said, hinting by so doing that the agreement of Carlton is not yet a done deal.

According to Marc Ravalomanana, the most important thing is, above all, the respect of everything that has been agreed in the Maputo agreements. “There are still waves of arrests and hindrance from freely expressing opinions”, he regretted. Then, he suggested to the different forces to analyze the grounds for the failure of Maputo II.

The Ravalomanana mobility’s delegation chief confirmed the reality of a consensus, but a consensus not yet into effect. Some causes for dispute remain. “It is not yet applicable since it is still a blunt package”, he explained.

The Ravalomanana mobility accepted the consensus on the designation of Pr. Eugene Mangalaza on top of the Transition’s government. It will not oppose the maintenance of Andry Rajoelina as the Transition’s president provided that he gives up intentions to contest the forthcoming presidential elections. “None of both chiefs of the executive power should be candidates “, added Fetison Andrianirina.

“There were a change, and a power takeover by the street; particular measures have to be taken in order to avoid it in the future”, explained Fetison Andrianirina. One of the decisions to be taken would be to make so that the transitional period does not turn into a gateway to the Republic’s presidency for the putsch maker. The request is appropriated compared to nowadays’ situation in some African countries.
