Craft industry: Madagascar represented in South Africa

An Association called “Tahiana Creations”, manufacturer and distributor of Malagasy handicrafts made from raffia, vetiver and natural dye of raffia, will showcase its products at the Decorex exhibition event which will be held at the “Gallager Convention Center” in Midrand, South Africa, from August 7 to 9, 2011.

For Marie Alexandrine Rasoanantenaina, founder and manager of “Tahiana Creations”, vetiver has no longer secrets for her. After years of research and practice, she has found a way to use the roots of this herb to develop original handicrafts. It is the same thing for the dyes she uses, which she makes herself from plants in her garden and of which she explores the dyeing properties.

The first presence and participation of this designer-craftswoman in the South African exhibition was made possible through the logistical support of the commercial department of the Embassy of South Africa in Madagascar, the airline company, Airlink, and the import-export company Equinvest.
