Doctor’s strike: no minimum services from today

Strikes still continue here and there. Following their meeting recently held at the Institute of Social Hygiene at Analakely, the Union of doctors of Madagascar decided to hold a general strike for two days, starting from today. The leader of the Union reiterated that they will provide no minimum service. This decision is taken as the government continues to ignore their claims. In fact, these include housing, transportation and maintenance allowances.

It’s been a few months now that Malagasy doctors, namely those who are members of the union, are on strike. But until now, the government has not yet responded to their requests. And in spite of their important role in ensuring the lives of the many hospitalized patients and other people needing medical consultations, doctors seem not to care much about that. They only seem to be concerned with claiming for their money without considering the lives of others. Yet, their oaths and work ethics stipulate that saving life and giving life are the principal duties they must accomplish in their profession and even outside of it.
