Doing Business: Madagascar moves from the 144th to the 137th place

Madagascar has won seven places, from the 144th to the 137th place, in the Doing Business 2012 ranking which was released yesterday by the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). In other words, the country has managed to improve a little bit its regulation of business for entrepreneurs over the last twelve months.

Among the efforts mentioned in the report is the facilitation of entrepreneurship through the suppression of the minimum required capital. The system concerning loan information has also been improved with the suppression of the minimum threshold required for loans in order to be included in the creditor’s database.  Another improvement is the banks’ introduction of their obligation to share their data on the loans, along with the information records on the loan. On the other hand, though, the obligation to perform tax registration before constitution has complicated the creation of businesses.

It is worth mentioning that Doing Business 2012 focuses on the theme “Entrepreneurship in a more transparent world”. It assesses the regulations for local companies in 183 economies and it ranks 10 economies according to areas of business regulations such as entrepreneurship, resolution of insolvency or cross-border trade.
