Energy: a Thai delegation is prospecting in Madagascar

The National Electricity Agency of Thailand is interested in Madagascar. It is prospecting for the second time in the Great Island. A potential competitor of the Jirama, the Thai National Electricity Agency (EGATI) has manifested its intention to invest in Madagascar. Currently in our walls, representatives of this company indicated yesterday at the Carlton Hotel that they came in Madagascar for the second time to prospect for a future collaboration in terms of energy.

“We have already signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ministry back in 2010. We came forward to realize our project of prospection, which was delayed by political events in Madagascar” indicated Sengamny, Project coordinator within EGATI. Feasibility studies will begin this year to last one to two years. Still according to the explanations of Sengamny, “It is through these studies that we can determine whether we will invest in the hydraulic or other source of energy. Our supply offer will depend on Malagasy demand, and could vary from one region to another.” For his part, Razafindrorika Nestor, Minister of Energy, made it clear that EGATI’s investment will probably be focused mostly on renewable energy.
