The Malagasy government and the JIRAMA are trying to find solutions to the frequent power cut in Antananarivo

Frequent power cut in Antananarivo: an additional power of 10 MW from December 1, 2007

For almost a month now, the city of Antananarivo has been suffering from a frequent power cut occuring just at a time when people need it the most. According tot the JIRAMA, the company supplying electricity and water in Madagascar, the frequent power cut is mainly due to the insufficiency of rain. Indeed, for the JIRAMA, water is a very fundamental element in its production of electricity. As a result, with the insuficiency of rain, the JIRAMA cannot produce more than 150 MW (Megawatt) of electricity for Antananarivo which normally needs, at least, 128 MW in the morning and in the evening.

In response to the vast complaint of the population about this situation, the Malagasy government and the JIRAMA have made an agreement with the Henri Fraise et Fils group in which the latter accepts to supply an additional power of 10 MW, available from the first day of December 2007.
