Handicrafts: the Chamber of crafts is mobilizing

After many years of silence, the Chamber of Crafts of Analamanga has lifted up its voice. Formally established in January 2001, this entity has finally taken some actions in order to prove that it is still alive and effective. The first of that is the renewal of its membership which took place on November 30, 2010. And the day before yesterday, in the general headquarter of handicrafts in 67ha, the newly-elected team, headed by its chairman Ralison, presented their action plan that aims at revitalizing the sector. In a word, the Chamber of Crafts of Antananarivo is taking up new challenges that will only be judged by its results.

This sector, which encompasses 12 specialties and 114 jobs, should be a lever for economic expansion. That is why the new members of the Chamber of crafts said that, now handicrafts are becoming an affair of state. Indeed, it works already together with all kinds of government entities.

An appeal has been made to all the craftsmen to renew their professional license. It is clear that in time of crisis, handicrafts help many Malagasy families to earn a living. But on a professional level, many products do not meet the required standards. Now, the time has come to identify all professionals in the sector of handicrafts, since the last official census was made 10 years ago.
