JIRAMA becomes a new partner of the Mobile Payment service

The national water and electricity utility (JIRAMA – Jiro sy Rano Malagasy) signed yesterday a partnership agreement with 3 local mobile telephone operators, including Orange, Airtel, and Telma, concerning the use of a new service called « Mobile Payment ». This new service consists primarily of paying one’s electricity bill through one’s mobile phone. The JIRAMA agency located in Ambohipo will be the first to use the Mobile Payment service. Other JIRAMA agencies will benefit from this service later on.
Today, the mobile telephone sector is a thriving market that is moving towards an ever increasing innovation and multifonctionality. Actually, a mobile phone can now perform diverse tasks such as texting, filming, photographing, publishing, communicating, playing, learning, and data downloading. In addition to these, purchasing articles and paying bills from a single mobile phone and without leaving home are also becoming possible. It is within this context that JIRAMA decided to engage in such partnership.
As pointed out by the JIRAMA CEO, Desiré Rasidy, « Jirama wants to be at the forefront of high technology, and this partnership agreement expresses its desire to contribute to the economic development of the country». Indeed, it is possible to send and transfer money, but also to pay one’s bills. The principle is simple. One needs only to have a mobile account. The Mobile Payment service will therefore be operated through mobile services such as Mvola , Orange Money and Airtel Money.
