Joaquim Chissano, the SADC regional organization's envoy, will be dispatched to Antananarivo city within the next few days, namely as a consequence of the next meeting held by the International Contact Group about Madagascar. The Mozambican former president's reaction happens to be crucial now that the International Community seems to display shared views and hesitation between targeted sanctions or support to be pledged to the political process tackled by the FFKM, the Confederation of Christian Churches in Madagascar, for the sake of reaching any decent home grown settlement to the political crisis which has been engulfing the country since the year 2009

Joaquim Chissano: his stand impatiently expected

As a matter of fact, the Tanzanian President’s latest official stand expressed in a letter sent by Jakaya Kikwete to the transitional leader Andry Rajoelina suggested that the SADC would be bound to support the FFKM led gathering of three Malagasy former presidents with the transitional leader. “Let it be known that we do welcome the organization of such a conference” wrote the Tanzanian President and current acting President of the SADC’s Troika down. Joaquim Chissano’s next stay in Madagascar will either confirm this point or rather keep on sticking to the International Community’s position, that is to say the requirement of three presidential candidates to withdraw their involvement into the presidential race, namely Andry Rajoelina, Lalao Ravalomanana and Didier Ratsiraka
