A dipolmatic coup for Madagascar Kofi Annan the Un Secretary general will visit our island.

Madagascar waits for Kofi Annan.

The Nouvelles speaks of « An event worthy to be engraved for posterity in the annals of Malagasy diplomacy » This will be the first time a Secretary general of the United Nations will visit Madagascar. The Express wrote,? We expect Kofi Annan on the 15th March. For now we do not have details of his expected agenda of his short visit. For sure we expect to exchange information and our permanent representative at the United Nations has sketched for us an idea of what this visit will entail. Subjects of common interest such as environmental concerns and protection of Madagascar?s unique bio-diversity part of the world?s heritage will surely be discussed. The Rova of Ambohimanga will also be included. » Referring back to the conversation between Kofi Annan and the president Ravalomanana in Mauritius in January of 2005, one might expect the question of aid  under the guise of the UN  plan to aid impoverished nations (PEID) such as ours, be broached. Our chief officer has asked that Madagascar be included in this group and at that time Kofi Annan gave assurances he would make serious efforts to see that Madagascar receive those same benefits already being administered to active member states. In waiting for such advantageous conditions to be decided, our government already sees this as a diplomatic coup for Madagascar. For us to receive such an important visitor from the world stage is a success in its own right, this from our permanent representative to the UN
