Malagasy women in Lebanon: Their plights still continues

While hearing complaints from some families of Malagasy women working in Lebanon, it seems that the situation is getting worse for these women. It is very distressing and even painful for these families to learn that their loved ones undergo severe torments in a distant country, and that there is nothing they can do about it. For example, a young woman left Madagascar in 2009 to work in Lebanon. Since the time she arrived there, she often complained to her mother that she has been undergoing physical tortures and rape attempts, which are perpetrated by her boss. Fearing that the Lebanese authorities would catch her due to her lack of papers and money and due to the distance between the city of Beirut and the place where she lives, this young woman tries somehow to cope with the situation and suffers in silence.

And she is not the only Malagasy woman to suffer under such a painful situation. Indeed, many other women from the province of Antsiranana who still work there are experiencing similar situation. Some parents and families do not lose hope and try to do all the necessary steps to bring back their children, while others suffer in silence, aware of their powerlessness in front of the problem. It is important to note that in order to return to Madagascar, a person must have at least 1000 US dollars.
